EyeDeal out

The day has finally come. I've put up the 1.0 release of my very own, lovingly hand-made, spanking new blog. It doesn't do much of the stuff this one does, and it certainly hasn't got the ammount of posts this blog has, but that's my new home, and a work in progress. Keep an eye out for new posts there.

This is my very last post here. I'll keep this one up for as long as the server is paid for (it will expire soonish, though). I won't try to move the posts to the new blog. It's a fresh start, and I think I'd like to let this thing die. I'll rewrite some of the older articles that I find useful, though.

Money democracy

Well, I haven't voted for the last three or four years, I think. Maybe even longer. There have been quite a few elections lately, but I just don't believe in democratic processes. It's not just my country. It is failing everywhere.

Why are people afraid of CLI?

Until recently, I thought it was uderstandable that people are afraid of CLI, and that GUI apps were easier for most average computer users. But now I've learned a few things about some (minority of) computer users that made me change my mind.

How to go about 'learning the networks'...

I've skimmed over some hundreds of pages of various books in order to define a good starting point in this little undertaking of mine. The Tanenbaum book is really great, but it's very theoretical, and painfully detailed. It's definitely not something I want to touch yet. Not coming from IT background has its own drawbacks, especially in more technical areas such as networks.

Network admin, I bow down to you!

Networks are complex beasts. Beyond words... I've recently decided to start studying networking, especially now that I've got three PCs at home (two laptop and one desktop), and that Internet connection sharing, bandwidth allocation and such topics became my day-to-day concern.

Think about the past

I saw some rather heated discussion over Beryl in Ubuntu a while ago (wasn't too interesting, so I don't know where it was now). In one of the comments, a person whines about how there are too many new terms like expose, desktop wall, viewports, and so on, and how all that is quite confusing (I'm guessing s/he must have meant 'to Beryl newbies'). The person went on to invent new words for those items s/he thought were poorly named. Another person then jumps in and says, yeah, why call something a computer when we can call it "a machine that processes data according to sets of instructions". Well, there were actually days when people didn't know what a mouse was and how to use a cursor. There still are people like that. So how did people solve such problems back then?

Okay, I had promised myself I would not blog about this even as rioting goes on in my backyard, but hell, it's where I live, and some word about it has to be written here as well. So, you've all heard about it, seen it on TV, and I will tell you why this happens.

The why's of the clueless

Today I wish to talk about something that I've been doing for a long time: teaching yourself anything. Yes, it can be done, and no, it is not easy. It can be done if you have an inquiring mind, and insist one the why's, but it is hard because you don't get much recognition from those who are not like you.

When you disagree with everyone

When a person disagrees with each and everyone in his/her environment, it may mean a number of things, but it usually boils down to that person being above or below average. Now, most people I know are what we can consider 'average'. Average grades, average jobs, average incomes. I'm not talking about education, etc. Just the numbers we can use as some sort of reference...

The Ultimate Encyclopaedia

You thought Wikipedia was the ultimate resource on Web today? Well, think again. For those discriminating intellectuals, to whom quest for knowledge is the sole purpose of their existence on Earth, I present the Uncyclopedia, the Holy Grail of collaborative authoring and knowledge collecting.
