Networks are complex beasts. Beyond words... I've recently decided to start studying networking, especially now that I've got three PCs at home (two laptop and one desktop), and that Internet connection sharing, bandwidth allocation and such topics became my day-to-day concern.
As usual, I simply could not satisfy my curiosity with a few howtos and tutorials. Those get the job done, but I need to know more. So I got a few books on networks, including the industry standard Tanenbaum and spent a week or so scratching the surface of this huge area of IT.
I'm so impressed by how big all this is, and how invisible it is to all of us who 'surf' the Net on daily basis. We enjoy all the benefits without ever caring, without ever thinking of caring, about what makes it work. It's like driving a car without ever seeing the road.
I definitely should have studied telecommunications while I had the chance. :D
